Intergenerational equity

This post marks the resumption of my blog after a hiatus due to the arrival of son number two (below).

In considering how the blog relates to Tom, the World Commission on Environment and Development (aka the Brundtland Commission) provided a landmark definition for sustainable development in 1987 as follows:

development that meets the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs

So there you have it – I owe it to Tom to resume the blog, even if changing his pants must occasionally take precedence.
